Adult ballet and tap in Sewickley
Intermission is an adult studio on Beaver Street. Our ballet and tap classes meet after work and on weekends, for people who have never danced and people who stopped years ago.

Four steps from the sofa to the barre.
High school, a wedding, a living room, never. Say it when you message us or at the door. There is no wrong answer, and your teacher uses it to point you to the right class.
Every class meets after work on a weeknight or on Saturday or Sunday morning. The level on each class says who it is for, and the schedule lets you filter by it.
Wear what you can move in. Socks are fine for the first weeks, and we will tell you when shoes would help. You will find a spot at the barre among other people who are new to it too.
Do the class at your own pace, rest when you need to, and talk with your teacher afterward about what comes next. Nobody is watching the door.
Every class meets after 6 pm on a weeknight or on a weekend morning. Filter by level or by style.

Two classes a week for the term: one of each, or two of the same.
“I hadn't been in a dance studio since I was nine. Marivic had us find the barre first and our feet second, and nobody laughed at anything but their own mistakes.”
“The Wednesday tap class is the hour of my week when nobody asks me for anything. Jamel counts us in out loud, we get it wrong together, and then we get it right.”
“I came back after twenty years away. The teacher asked when I last danced, said that was fine, and put me at the end of the barre where I could see everyone.”

Five teachers share the week at Intermission. You will meet two of them here.

Director and ballet teacher
Marivic teaches the ballet classes and opened Intermission for adults who think they have missed their chance. She danced as a girl and again in her thirties, and she speaks Tagalog with anyone who would like to.

Tap and beginner classes
Jamel teaches the beginner tap classes and looks after the studio's tap floor. He counts a class in out loud and never goes faster than the slowest feet in the room.
Whether you need experience, what to wear, whether a friend may watch. The rest is on the questions page.
No. The first steps classes start from standing at the barre. If you danced years ago, ballet again picks up where most people remember, a little at a time.
No. Everyone comes on their own or with a friend, and no class asks you to dance with anyone.
Anything you can move in, with your hair tied back. Socks are fine for the first weeks.
In the last week of each term, yes, from the benches along the wall. Ask us about other days.
Pick a class from the schedule and book a visit on our registration page. Wear something comfortable; socks are fine.
